|

Hi,
We have a 1999 Convoy Ambulance with the correct keys however with the key we can only open the sliding side door. We can manually unlock the front doors from inside and lock them (both together) using the key from the outside, but cannot unlock the front doors from the outside which is quite annoying!
Any advice please?
It seems that the locks are electonically operated hence we cant unlock the door just by turning the key.. is this correct?
Any wiring diagrams for the locks would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!

Sounds like you might have the wrong key for the lock. Any key will lock the Convoy doors but it won,t unlock them. _________________ 2.4 Convoy Minicoach

| Ah, ok. Will the doors normally unlock mechanically or do they need power to them to work? |

They will unlock manually, one door at a time. _________________ 2.4 Convoy Minicoach

Ours wont so it could well be that I have the wrong key then?
Is the ignition key often different to the door key? The keys we have work in the side door and ignition so I'm surprised if they aren't the same for the front doors?? |

My pilot has an ignition key and a smaller key to fit the doors (Ex Royal Mail), but the Convoy has one key that fits both ignition and all the doors. It might be that some one has changed the front doors at some point and not bothered with the locks. I,m sur the locks are all the same if you wanted to change them, the electronics should be on one of the rods that connects to the lock. _________________ 2.4 Convoy Minicoach

my 99 van done this it seems some were set up like post office locks and locked you out when you shut them !
My van had a key fob to unlock the door then you could open it once i just put it back to std as the central locking was a bit naff anyway |

| If it is an ex london ambulance, then you can open the door from the inside, put your hand in the cupboard and you will see the switch on the forward edge of the door, push it to one side and it will open. The ignition lock is an older ford item, and the side door is a later ford item, from about the mid '90s, like a ford escort or orion of the time. To get it open you may aswell use the tried and tested hammer in a screwdriver and twist method, as used by london ambulance fitters for years when keys are lost, then simply replace with a new one from ford. Just be careful how hard you hit and twist due to the fibreglass nature of the door. |
